Get all three Newbie patterns in one bundle: the Newbie Sweater, the Newbie Sweater V-Neck and the Newbie Cardigan. They're all made for beginners, with big needles, fluffy yarn and photos for every step.
Start with your favorite, then knit the next one with the techniques you've just learned. All three are knit from the top down, with big balloon sleeves and an oversized fit.
All three Newbie patterns – the Newbie Sweater, Newbie Sweater V-Neck and Newbie Cardigan – are worked top down, with each step explained in detail with pictures. First, the back piece is worked, whereafter stitches are picked up for both shoulders and the neckline is shaped with increases. On the sweaters, the front piece is worked flat before the front and back piece are closed to the round under the armhole openings, and the body is then worked in rounds. On the cardigan, the shoulders form the front pieces and the body is worked back and forth. Finally, you pick up stitches for the sleeves around the armhole openings and work them top down in rounds.
The Newbie Series can be knit with various yarn alternatives.
Alternative 1: One strand of thick mohair yarn
All kinds of thick mohair yarn can be used, for example
- Hipknitshop Fluff (50 g = 100 meters)
- Viking Mohrino (50 g = 100 meters)
- Camilla Pihl Fnugg (50 g = 80 meters)
- Dale Garn Myk Påfugl (50 g = 90 meters)
- Sandnes Garn Børstet Alpakka (50 g = 110 meters)
- Drops Melody (50 g = 140 meters). Note! Recommended needle size 8.0 mm.
- Rauma Tjukk Mohair (50 g = 105 meters)
Alternative 2: Four strands of thin mohair yarn
For thin mohair yarn, you can use most types (they usually have a length of slightly over 200 meters per 25 grams). To knit with four strands held together, you can knit from both ends of two skeins.
You can also replace two of the thin mohair strands with one strand of thin merino (most types that are approximately 200–250 meters per 50 grams will work), knitting with one strand of merino and two strands of mohair.
Alternative 3: Blow yarn held double
If you want to use blow yarn like Drops Air, Sandnes Kos, Viking Alpaca Bris (50 grams = 150 meters), you can use double strands (recommended needle size 8.0 mm).
